A keen traveller, when not in front of a computer keyboard, Sam can be found planning his next trip away or, closer to home, back in front of a keyboard writing something covering film and TV.
Joining us in July 2016, James is heavily involved in anything creative within the team, delivering design solutions across digital and print.
After studying Graphic Design at The University of Gloucestershire, James previously held roles within a number of design agencies across the South West. This saw him work on small and large accounts such as Heineken Corporate and Nivea Skincare.
Outside working hours, his love for creativity sees him attend many design events, workshops and festivals across the country. Aside from this he holds a real passion for sport – cricket in particular. If he’s not at ClientsFirst you’ll likely be able to find James at his local cricket club, coaching and playing before enjoying a few ales with friends.
Paula joined us as Office Manager in August 2015, with a wide remit that includes accounts, facilities and more. She has a background in marketing, having previously worked in events marketing, branding and product launches, so she brings a lot of expertise and input to the team, away from her core responsibilities.
Out of the office, Paula has two young boys who keep her very active – they have a better social life than she does! When she does manage to grab some precious time to herself, though, Paula enjoys drinks out with friends, a rigorous Pilates class or a good book.
Ellen spends her day looking after ClientsFirst’s key retained accounts. On a daily basis, she coordinates the team to ensure her clients’ activities are completed in support of their overall marketing strategy.
Ellen has previous experience in the Financial Services industry and attained a first class degree in Marketing, Design and Communications at Nottingham Business School.
Out of the office, Ellen enjoys riding in the countryside on her horse, Lily, and has recently dusted off her competition gear to pursue her passion for dressage. She’s also yet to turn down an invitation for a cosy film night in or a gossip over a few cocktails in town with the girls!
Lindsey has a wealth of experience in marketing and copy production, including several years in project management at The British Council. She has also worked in marketing and copywriting roles at a full service communications agency and spent several years helping her husband to set up and run his own business.
Lindsey’s background also includes putting her copywriting skills to good effect as a book reviewer for the national magazine of a major retailer and successfully obtaining a degree in Modern Languages at Durham University. She also holds a distinction in a Postgraduate Certificate in Marketing Management and loves nothing more than coming up with a strapline that captures the essence of a product or company!
Away from the office, Lindsey is a keen runner – in fact, she says her most creative ideas pop into her head when she’s out pounding the track or country lanes!
Lizzie has a Masters Degree in Digital Marketing and takes responsibility for looking after a select number of clients who work with the business on an ongoing retained basis.
Her role sees her co-ordinating the wider team to ensure her clients’ activities are completed in support of their overall marketing strategy.
Away from work, Lizzie enjoys going out for dinner and drinks with friends. She is also a great lover of travelling, with her eyes set on NYC for 2017.
Jenny has held senior marketing roles, predominantly within the professional services sector, for over seventeen years. She helps firms to create integrated marketing strategies across the whole marketing mix and has specific experience in communications, digital, brand, PR, events, internal marketing, content, advertising and much more. Jenny works with businesses to build a platform of activities to help them achieve their objectives. She also holds a Chartered Institute of Marketing Post Graduate Diploma in Marketing.
Outside of work, Jenny has two very sporty boys that keep her second job as a ‘taxi service’ in high demand. She also loves to travel and ski and tries to keep fit when there is time.
Gemma has held roles in journalism and managed the PR function of a regional agency, before she joined Jon to establish ClientsFirst. Gemma takes overall responsibility for coordinating an excellent service delivery for our clients and takes a keen interest in the new business sales function of ClientsFirst.
Away from ClientsFirst, Gemma loves nothing more than walking in the country with her two Cocker Spaniels, Benson and Bramble.
Sorrel comes from a customer services and sales background, having also volunteered in a variety of social care sectors. Working closely with the rest of the team, Sorrel assists with all areas of the business, whilst building up her own knowledge of the marketing world. She has a particular interest in content and digital marketing and plays an active part in client projects which focus on either of those areas.
Sorrel has recently successfully completed her Marketing Advanced Apprenticeship, which includes A Level 3 NVQ Certificate in Marketing and A Level 3 Technical Certificate in Principles of Marketing.
Out of work, Sorrel can be found in the park, spending time with her young son. She enjoys regular games nights with her family, socialising with her friends, and the odd film or TV series marathon – and not forgetting her daily dance to the ten minute takeover!
Jake gained experience as a web developer for a variety of North West agencies before becoming a vital part of ClientsFirst’s team in September 2015. As our Junior Web Developer, Jake is keen to gain new skills from our existing developers and, in particular, develop his expertise in optimising sites for our web projects.
When not coding, Jake likes to take photos in and around Macclesfield in the late nights and early mornings. Jake has also recently got back into drumming and is a mean poker player when he gets the chance.
Adam heads our design team and has a unique perspective on our creative work, having spent six years as Design Manager and Head of Design for various client-side businesses.
Adam most recently filled the lead design role for one of the largest accountancy groups in the country, before deciding to rejoin the agency world, where he also has five years of experience. Adam’s unique perspective – and love of all things design and creative – ensures that all of our creative work for clients is delivered entirely with their goals and aims in mind.
When he’s not working with the team on our latest creation he’s usually spending time with his wife Emma and young son Jack, walking their dogs come rain or shine. Further afield, Adam is a keen traveller or, closer to home, unwinds with a spot of mountain biking and some fine cask ales!
Clients of ours will find themselves speaking to Jenny on a regular basis, as she manages the products sold through our sister company, Adviser-Store. Jenny is an English Language graduate and an expert on our email software, MailFirst.
As everyone who has talked to her will know, Jenny is a true ‘people person’, always going above and beyond when helping our clients. When she’s not doing that, she’ll always leave time to shop till she drops and likes the occasional holiday on a nice beach somewhere!
Jon founded ClientsFirst in 2010, having previously worked in both plc and SMEs. Having started in what he describes as a ‘broom cupboard’, Jon has grown ClientsFirst from the ground up and continues to take an active role in both our own marketing and that of our clients, as well as setting the strategic direction of the business.
Jon’s most difficult ‘management’ task away from the office is keeping three young offspring busy but, when he’s not doing this or anything related to ClientsFirst, he heads out into the great outdoors, with tennis, golf and running the occasional half-marathon amongst his hobbies.
Gemma is a highly motivated individual, with over 10 years’ experience in the financial and customer service industry. She is responsible for the coordination of our internal creative resource and external freelance resource. Gemma is a hugely well qualified project manager and, through her expertise and experience, the ClientsFirst team are able to work smarter and harder on every type of project we do for our clients. Gemma is in charge of carrying out effective business analysis in order to streamline processes, procedures and improve business efficiency.
Outside work, Gemma enjoys keeping active, taking part in a number of charity events including running the London Marathon and climbing Ben Nevis.
Chris joined ClientsFirst as Head of Development from another local full service marketing company in mid-2014. With over 12 years of web development experience already behind him, Chris was ideally suited to leading the development side of the business. He is responsible for overseeing the development process and ensuring that websites meet client expectations and perform to their maximum. Chris has a degree in Computing Science and experience working with global FTSE 100 and Blue Chip clients, with particular expertise in HTML5 and CSS3.
Chris became a father for the first time in November 2015 and so is currently enjoying his new adventure with little Theo. When he gets the chance, Chris enjoys getting out and about in Macclesfield forest with his family, watching his favourite football team or playing a game of darts with friends.
Steve has over twenty-four years experience as a graphic designer, including a long-term position with another full service marketing firm and time freelancing for various North West agencies. Originally training as a photographic editor, Steve’s work can often be inspired by his design interests; expert street art, anything that really makes you stop and think ‘that’s different’ and Manga and Japanese illustration styles.
Away from the office, Steve has a huge passion for music, playing both electric and acoustic guitars. If he’s not at a local gig or a festival further afield, he can often be found at his caravan in North Wales, where he spent a lot of his younger years, or sampling a good real ale in a proper pub.
As a Senior Account Manager at ClientsFirst with responsibility for key retained accounts, Alec works with our larger retained clients to help them assess, define objectives, develop strategy and then make sure that we deliver on them. Prior to joining ClientsFirst, Alec worked for six years in Dubai, before moving back to England. Alec’s marketing focus is firmly on the digital side of things, with great knowledge of content management and marketing, lead nurturing, SEO, social media marketing and online advertising, but he also has experience in PR and events marketing, helping our clients across the full range of online and offline.
Away from work, Alec become a father for the first time in early 2015 and so spends much of his free time taking care of little Lily-Belle. When he does get the chance, he can be found tweaking his fantasy football team, keeping track of Liverpool FC and following his passion for music production in his home studio, although the volume has had to be turned down somewhat!
Fern is ClientsFirst’s Marketing Account Executive, with responsibility for looking after our many of our email marketing clients. With a degree in Business and Marketing from The University of Lincoln, Fern’s experience helps our clients to send perfect campaigns, every time.
Away from work, Fern aspires to travel the globe in the near future. For now, when not in the office, you’ll often find her heading back to Lincoln to reunite with friends, or spending time with her family.
Matt joined ClientsFirst in July 2016, having previously specialised in social media for a range of client-side brands; from radio, to fashion, property investment to music.
At ClientsFirst, Matt gets involved with all of our digital marketing, leading the way on our clients’ social media efforts and contributing to the team on areas such as SEO and email marketing.
When he’s not our social expert, Matt focuses on his music. A keen singer, guitar, piano, bass and drum player, Matt plays live when he can and otherwise spends time in his home studio. When he needs a break from that, it’s Sci-Fi at the cinema, or a trip to one of Manchester’s quirky Northern Quarter bars.

Their website needed to communicate the firm’s prestige. No gimmicks or tricks. Just the pure and tangible value of their intangible service.
Our solution involved the creation of a subtle but highly refined brand, which communicates heritage, worth and expertise.
The branding is reinforced on the home page and throughout the site via the use of prominent concepts and messages which align with the firm’s values.
The full brand guidelines we created allow the firm to communicate consistently both online and offline in all of their future endeavours.
Newell Palmer are a progressive financial planning firm, based predominantly in the Midlands. They have expanded exponentially over recent years and in 2015 completed their 35th business acquisition.
As, over time, they have become a larger firm, Newell Palmer came to ClientsFirst with a requirement for a marketing strategy to be delivered in tandem by ourselves and their internal marketing resource, with the aim being to keep in touch with their ever-growing client base. The company greatly value personal financial planning and wanted to ensure this was maintained as they grew in size.
Our solution includes both a new website, which emphasises personal connections within the firm and an ongoing marketing strategy, which ensures clients are communicated with regularly about changes large and small.
Our flexible approach to Newell Palmer’s ongoing marketing means that we are on hand whenever a key message is needed; whether that be to do with market and investment performance, or a business change within the firm, such as a further acquisition. Newell Palmer have benefitted from this approach, with several client comments recognising their increased proactive communications, helping to foster connections between firm and clients.
Scott Hughes are innovative design and structural engineers.
Their website needed to reflect their modern approach to design, as well as putting their creations front and centre.
The end result is a website which emphasises their fantastic portfolio of work, whilst minimising distractions. Bespoke photography is displayed prominently and rotated often, to increase engagement. The full navigation menu is kept hidden, unless requested by a user.
As with all of our websites, a responsive mobile solution ensures browsers using a phone or tablet can still receive the full site experience, without painful scrolling or slow load times.
Cullen Wealth worked with us to develop new branding and a new website. After both were launched we continue to work with Cullen on ongoing marketing projects.
Cullen’s brand focuses on bespoke photographs of their offices and people. These are enlivened by strong colour choices, which run throughout the firm’s online and offline presence. Video case studies bring the work which Cullen do to life.
Focusing firstly on email marketing and then on Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), the marketing work completed with Cullen has helped them to improve client retention and relationships and take their firm to a new audience.
The result of our work with Cullen was a substantial increase in search traffic arriving at the site and increased email engagement, both monitored by our advanced marketing platforms.
Alex Tilley is a professional ski racer for Great Britain, who is currently competing for selection to Team GB for the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea.
As part of her aims this year, Alex wanted to establish her presence online, which currently only revolves around social media, where she interacts with fans and fellow ski professionals.
The website ClientsFirst designed and developed for her emphasises her values, professionalism and commitment, whilst giving Alex a place collate achievements, interact with sponsors and create an online resource for her career in 2016 and beyond.
The design of the site establishes consistent branding for Alex to use in the future and features imagery and colours in-keeping with her passionate love of winter sports. Good luck to Alex in her bid for Winter Olympic glory in 2018 – we’ll be cheering you on (but probably from in front of a warm fire!).
Close Brothers is a leading UK merchant banking group, providing lending, deposit taking, wealth management services, and securities trading.
They approached ClientsFirst with a design requirement for the educational side of their business, which involves helping large companies to understand various elements of finance.
The decision to use an external agency, rather than their internal marketing resource, was based on the need for ‘something different’ from their regular promotional material. As the purpose of this brochure was purely to educate, the firm were keen to ensure this was not seen as part of their regular creative output.
The ClientsFirst design uses the imagery of a sharp pencil to carry through the educational element and reflects this design choice within the brochure, as well as on the bold front cover.
Donald Wealth Management focus on helping families to protect and invest their wealth.
Working with many business owners who want to know that they can transfer wealth from their firm to their family, Donald wanted to ensure their brand and website communicated the values shared between themselves and their clients.
The result was a brand and website which emphasises continued success, happiness, family and tradition.
The values are carried in highly visible imagery, such as the homepage picture gallery, but also through subtle elements, such as the Donald ‘signature’ logo, which is entirely bespoke.
Talbot and Muir offer a personalised pension service to financial advisers and their clients.
Unlike large firms with call centres, Talbot and Muir pride themselves on their fast and personal service.
The firm’s new website and branding reflect that people and relationships are at the centre of their business. There’s no cold stock imagery, just genuine photos of the team who are always available on the other end of the phone.
The core imagery for the website is reflected in offline documentation and marketing collateral. Online, the website contains several necessary technical areas, which are easily navigable, thanks to a consistent and familiar structure.
The Adviser Lounge is a social site for financial advisers to post their take on the latest industry news and events; from legislation changes, to best practice, to… their favourite types of crisps.
Having originally developed the site with secure login access for all members, we worked with Adviser Lounge again to refresh their branding and tweak the site’s presentation.
The result was a redesigned home page, which allows new visitors and regular readers to see all of the latest content at a glance.
Individual article pages were also redesigned to make for a more pleasant reading and commenting experience.
As a result, Adviser Lounge increased both their membership and readership, thanks to the streamlined user experience. Adviser Lounge continues to see high traffic and engagement levels, with their membership amongst the most active in the financial services space.

An initial project with Active saw us successfully deliver a refresh to their website, keeping in place many existing elements but updating them to optimise for modern design and development considerations. Capital Asset Management are a boutique, multi award winning London-based financial planning firm, headed by Alan Smith, noted and respected within the industry for his ideas and approach.
Capital’s clients are typically city professionals, with high expectations of a wealth management firm, expectations which Capital exceed. As such, they needed a website which made tangible their intangible service, expertise and dedication to perfection, as well as directly linking them to the location of their target market.
ClientsFirst’s solution features full page custom video, shot professionally on location in and around Capital’s City headquarters. The video’s message emphasises not only Capital’s expertise, but also their connection to London, through a subtle and refined message, which runs throughout the video.
From there, a bespoke design scheme continues to emphasise the firm’s values and approach, with close attention paid to copy and other smaller elements which come together to establish the Capital brand. The end result is a site which we think accurately represents a firm seen by many to be amongst the best in the UK.
Time4Advice are the developers of revolutionary financial software Curo. They needed a website which communicated the forward-thinking nature of their product through design, concept and copy.
Using the latest technology to incorporate dynamic scrolling and a video background, the Time4Advice website emphasises that Curo is a product with both style and substance, used by people with the same.
Subtle visual cues throughout the site continue to build Time4Advice’s house style and voice, whilst iconography and a clean and simple journal allow the firm to easily communicate their message.
The online branding we developed is reflected in offline assets, which allow Time4Advice to continue to develop their client base.
