Google has so many really interesting features for businesses that often go unnoticed by most people. One of these features is Google My Business (GMB).
It used to be called ‘Places’ when it was first released, but the business side of Google has really blossomed as GMB.
So what is it? Well it’s something you probably see on a daily basis if you are searching for businesses or products. For example, go to Google and type in ‘ClientsFirst’ and hit search. You will see a box on the right hand side of the search results. That’s GMB in action.
It shows all of your business’ relevant information, including things like address, website, phone number, reviews, pictures and opening hours. It essentially connects a business to a location, gives you a central ‘hub’ through which to communicate new information to Google and even adds your business onto Google Maps.
If you haven’t set yours up yet, we strongly advise you do! While GMB isn’t a huge SEO ranking factor, it can affect your local search rankings, especially if you have Google reviews on your profile.
My Business has had an overhaul
Recently GMB has been updated and a really useful feature has been added.
It’s called ‘Posts’ and essentially it allows you to add a Call to Action type post onto your GMB box.
We have added in one of our marketing template landing pages as a post, instantly adding another channel to our lead generation efforts.
Of course, you aren’t limited to what you can add into posts, it’s basically just an area for 100-300 words of text and image, and the option to add in a button to an external URL.
Google have also added in a new website building feature. We haven’t really had much of a play with it yet, but it looks like you can create a very basic looking website which uses the business info on GMB to populate it.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for GMB as Google continues to add to its powerful hub for businesses.
